The Atomic Bomb

I think that the U.S. should have dropped the bomb. I think instead of two they should have only dropped one. I think this because many more inocent poeple died than should have and even people today are suffering from the effects of the radiation from the bomb in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It is unfai to the civilians that this happend. I think only one bomb should have been dropped because then the world could have seen the effects on it with out to many poeple dying. Also so Japan could see the power we have without over doing it. Japan saw that we were willing to kill many people for their unconditional surrender and it was the fastest and easiest way to get that. If the U.S. did not drop any bombs more people could have died fighting in the war so it is all together a better thing that the Nuclear bombs are very bad things and they should never be used in or out of warfare. They kill way too many innocent people even years after they have been detinated.

The Battle of the Bulge

The Battle of the Bulge was fought during the winter months of 1944 and 1945. It was the last major Nazi offensive against the Allies in World War Two. The battle was a last attempt by Hitler to split the Allies in two as they headed towards Germany. Hitler wanted to destroy their ability to supply themselves. The success of the Germans lasted only two days. Despite pushing a bulge into the Allies front line, the Germans could not do any more than that. The Germans had based their attack on a massive armoured onslaught and they didnt have the resources to fuel it. The Battle of the Bulge was the largest battle fought by the Americans in World War Two. 600,000 American troops were involved in the battle. The Americans lost 81,000 men while the Germans lost 100,000 killed, wounded and captured. This battle was the last major battle that the Germans lost and from then on they kept losing. Allied forces eventually pushed them back into Germany and that was the end of the war on the European front. The Battle of the Bulge is considered the tiping point for WWII in Europe.

WWII Propaganda

The purpose of this poster is to is to convince women to get a job instead of staying at home waiting for their men to come home. It also leans them towards jobs in the government or war. Symbols that are used in this poster would be the woman herself and the flag in the background. The intended audience for this poster was probably middle age women. Although it could have worked for women of all ages. It might have appealed even men who could not go to war and need something to do to help their country. The poster hopes that the audience who ever that might be, will go see their U.S. Employment Service and get a job for the governemnt or helping the war efforts. I find this poster persuasive because it shows a nicley dressed and nice looking women who looks like a professional which is what many people can look up to as a type of role model and go a do what the poster says just so they can be like her. It is like any poster today with a good looking person doing something new, it makes everyone who sees it want to do the same thing too. It also works for clothes and food products and that is why I think this is a persuasive poster because it can appeal to any one who wants to be like her; the good looking professional and powerful women who has a job.

Top 5 Causes of WWI

1. Asassination: There were several causes of World War I. The most immediate cause was the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary. Austria-Hungary decided that Serbia was to blame for the assassination and declared war on Serbia.
2. Nationalism: Before the assassination, there were other things going on in Europe that led up to the war. One thing was an increase in the feeling of nationalism in many European countries. Nationalism is something like patriotism, so you may be surprised to hear that it was one cause of the war, but nationalism doesn't just mean supporting your own country. Nationalism means putting the interests of your own country above everything else and ignoring the rights of people in other countries.
3. Alliances: When the assasination happend the two countries who began to fight and invade had treaties with other countries that if they were to be invaded that they would come to their aid. These alliances starteed a domino effect because the two countries that had alliances also had other alliances and when they got invaded even more countries joined the war.
4. Militarism: All the countries involved in the problems were building large armies and navies pre-war. A class of professional and powerful military officers developed and began to dominate civil authorities. Also before the conflict happened, the militaries of each country had drawn up complete plans for mobilization. The existence of secret battle plans pussed spying, which caused greater hatred and fear between the rival countries.
5. Imperialism: Another factor which contributed to the increase in rivalry in Europe was imperialism. Great Britain, Germany and France needed foreign markets after the increase in manufacturing caused by the Industrial Revolution. These countries competed for economic growth in Africa. Although Britain and France resolved their differences in Africa, several problems before the war involved te fighting between France and Britain against Germany in North Africa. The Ottoman Empire was looking to invade Austria-Hungary, the Balkans and Russia.

WWI Home Front

Rationing During WWI
The Defence of the Realm Act (DORA) was put into effect to make sure that food shortage were never a problem. February 1918 it was put into effect in Britain to help defense of U-Boats. The main exporters to Britain were America and Canada. It was used to help defend the Trading ships from the Germans who were attacking and sinking them.
Victory Gardens were also known as War gardens and were private gardens on private property that were used to grow fruits and vegetables. They were mainly used in Britain, Germany, America and Canada. They were used to take the pressure off of the public food supply. They became a part of every day life in the average person during WWI. The United States Department of Agriculture issued a 20 minute film to promote and train people how to plant victory titled "Victory Garden." Eleanor Roosevelt was one of the first people to creat a Victory Garden. She started one on the White House grounds. Many poeple objected to these gardens especially the food industry because they thought it would take customers away. It actually was not true and they ended up being a very important part of society during WWI.

WWI – Pro vs Con – Neutral or Fight

In my opinion the U.S. should have gone to war. I think that we should have gone to war because it was for a good cause. We were being threatened by Germany and they were the main aggressors in the war. There were many innocent people being murdered and forced to work in bad conditions by the government. There was religious and racial persecution going on in much of eastern europe and even some of western. Britain and France were being attacked and they needed help. We went to war to help support a good cause and to help save many poeple from being murdered. I agree that both sides were using deadly and extremely inhumane nerve gasses and that was wrong. But the German side was supporting an evil and wrong cause and that is why we went to war against them. If we had not gone to war then the Germans might have won and a Nazi Germany many years later may have been much more successfull which would be bad for every person in the world who is not blonde and blue eyed.
